The always groundbreaking Tesla Inc has again, well, broken new ground. The company known for its forward-thinking approach has again made a unique choice. On Thursday the company, run by mastermind Elon Musk, began leasing its Model 3 sedan in the United States in a fashion that would ultimately lift increase its customer platform.

Here’s the potentially game-changing financing plan. Tesla customers in the United States would be able to lease any Model 3 variant with a small up-front payment. They would pay monthly bills after that. However, customers will not have the ability to buy the car at the end of the lease.

Going forward Tesla will start combining its autopilot software as a regular feature on all cars, while increasing the base price. Finally, it would drop the entry-level Model 3 Standard from online purchasing.

Consequently, the cheapest Model 3 available to purchase on its online menu in the United States is the $39,500 Standard Plus. This includes the Autopilot feature.

Back in February, with tremendous hoopla, the company unveiled the $35,000 model of the car. Furthermore, Tesla has stated that the Standard variant of the Model 3 will be a software-limited iteration of the Standard Plus. Consequently, this approach will simplify production.

As part of the shake-up to its online ordering system, Tesla has indicated the Model 3 Standard Variant as well as the Model 3 Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive will be removed from the online ordering menu. However, these models can still be purchased by phone or in stores.

So, what do you guys think of this new payment model? Good idea?
